1515438fd3 Backport danpb's proposed fix for RHBZ #1692323 (3D crasher) 
This is a Fedora 30 Beta blocker, so we need it fixed ASAP; I'm
doing it (for Rawhide and F30) as none of the qemu maintainers
seems to be around on IRC.
