[PATCH] Add emergency_restart() When the kernel is working well and we want to restart cleanly kernel_restart is the function to use. But in many instances the kernel wants to reboot when thing are expected to be working very badly such as from panic or a software watchdog handler. This patch adds the function emergency_restart() so that callers can be clear what semantics they expect when calling restart. emergency_restart() is expected to be callable from interrupt context and possibly reliable in even more trying circumstances. x86: reboot_{32|64}.c unification reboot_{32|64}.c unification patch. This patch unifies the code from the reboot_32.c and reboot_64.c files. It has been tested in computers with X86_32 and X86_64 kernels and it looks like all reboot modes work fine (EFI restart system hasn't been tested yet). Probably I made some mistakes (like I usually do) so I hope we can identify and fix them soon. x86: attempt reboot via port CF9 if we have standard PCI ports Impact: Changes reboot behavior. If port CF9 seems to be safe to touch, attempt it before trying the keyboard controller. Port CF9 is not available on all chipsets (a significant but decreasing number of modern chipsets don't implement it), but port CF9 itself should in general be safe to poke (no ill effects if unimplemented) on any system which has PCI Configuration Method #1 or #2, as it falls inside the PCI configuration port range in both cases. No chipset without PCI is known to have port CF9, either, although an explicit "pci=bios" would mean we miss this and therefore don't use port CF9.
